Context of the visit

The Ethiopian Prime Minister’s spokeswoman, Billene Seyoum, told Al Jazeera that the visit comes in the context of Ethiopia’s strong interest in reaching a peaceful solution to the conflict in Sudan, adding that peace is achieved through presence on the ground through dialogue to resolve issues that have reached a dead end.

She explained that the Prime Minister’s visit to Sudan today aims to draw the world’s attention to the Sudanese people, who are facing the most dangerous phase in their history.

The Ethiopian spokeswoman also said that this mediation is not the first for the Prime Minister, as he had previously been active in mediating between civilians and the military after the fall of the former president.
