After the death of Saleh Al-Shaibi.. Who is the holder of the 78th key to the Holy Kaaba?

Dr. Saleh bin Zain Al-Abidin Al-Shaibi, the seventy-seventh custodian of the Holy Mosque in Mecca, and holder of the key to the Holy Kaaba, died at the age of 79.

After a long journey in the service of the first house established for the worship of God on earth, his body was laid to rest in the Al-Mu’alla Cemetery, after the dawn prayer, after a long journey of his life that he stopped to serve the Grand Mosque in Mecca and carry the historical trust.

Dr. Saleh Al-Shaibi assumed the position of Grand Master of the Holy Kaaba in 2014, succeeding his uncle Abdul Qadir Al-Shaibi.

During his tenure in office, he supervised the washing of the Kaaba more than 100 times, and made sure to maintain it and preserve its sanctity. As the only person who holds the key to the Holy Kaaba and is responsible for everything related to its affairs, he also accompanied the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, in washing the Kaaba.

Dr. Saleh Al-Shaibi had obtained a doctorate in Islamic studies, worked as a university professor and authored books on faith and history.

The deceased was distinguished by his sincerity in fulfilling the prophetic duty, and contributed greatly to conveying the message of Islam to the entire world.

The late Saleh Al-Shaibi came after more than 108 custodians throughout the ages, since the Prophet Ibrahim removed the foundations from the house, and his son Ismail and his descendants after him took care of the ancient house, until Jarham snatched it from them, and it remained in his possession until Qusay ibn Kilab, the fourth grandfather of the Prophet, recovered it. Muhammad, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, and it remained in the descendants of Qusay bin Kilab, including the descendants of the Al-Shaybi family, the current custodians of the Kaaba, and the grandchildren of Shaybah bin Uthman bin Abi Talha, to whom the Noble Prophet said: “Take it, O sons of Talha, forever and ever, and no one can take it away from you except an oppressor.”

The ruler is responsible for the affairs of the Kaaba, including opening and closing it, cleaning it, washing it, covering it, repairing the covering if it is torn, receiving its visitors, and everything related to that.

After the passing of Sheikh Saleh Al-Shaibi, the holder of the key to the Kaaba and the head of the Holy House of God is scheduled to be the most senior person for the Al-Shaibi family, or the person the family will appoint to carry the key to the Kaaba.
