The “Choosing Life” forum, which represents the bereaved families and victims of terrorism, today (Thursday) submitted an official complaint to the Israel Police against the publisher of the “Haaretz” newspaper. Amos Shokenfollowing statements he made at the “Haaretz” newspaper conference held in London. According to the forum, this is serious incitement and a call to harm the State of Israel and the security forces.
During the conference, Shoken called the terrorists who carried out the massacre on October 7 “Palestinian freedom fighters”, and called for the imposition of sanctions on the State of Israel in the midst of the war. In addition, he compared the IDF’s actions in Gaza to a “second Nakba”, a statement that was met with great anger among the Israeli public and in particular among the families of the victims of terrorism.
“In our opinion, these statements exceed the limits of freedom of expression and amount to incitement,” stated representatives of the “Choosing Life” forum. “When he calls the terrorists ‘freedom fighters’ and discredits the IDF soldiers, Shoken is actually encouraging and supporting the enemies of the state. These are serious things that must be denounced and responded to severely.”
The forum also added that they expect the Israel Police to act quickly to investigate the matter and bring Shoken to justice. “Such attitudes not only harm the security forces and bereaved families, but pose a real danger to our social cohesion. We cannot allow opinion leaders to harm the social fabric and justify the terror directed against us,” said the representatives of the forum.
According to the complaint, Shoken’s statements at the conference in London include direct encouragement of violence against IDF soldiers and settlers and support for the fight against terrorist organizations. “It is not possible for a person in such a senior position to take advantage of his influence to castigate the country during a war and sympathize with actions aimed at harming its citizens,” the forum said.
