Chelsea and Aston Villa bid farewell to the Carabao…and Arsenal qualifies

Both Chelsea and Aston Villa lost their bet this evening on substitute players, leaving the Carabao Cup in the round of 16 against Newcastle United and Crystal Palace, respectively, while Arsenal’s task was much easier against Preston, in the same round.

At Preston Stadium, the differences between the guest and the host appeared large, and Arsenal won by three clean goals, scored by Gabriel Jesus, Ethan Nwaneri and Kai Havertz in the 24th, 33rd and 57th minutes, respectively.

Newcastle United ended the Chelsea match early at home at St. James Park, after scoring two goals in the 23rd and 26th minutes respectively, the first by Swede Alexander Isak, and the second by mistake by defender Axel Disasi.

Aston Villa had difficult moments at home at Villa Park, as they were eliminated from the Carabao Cup to a key Crystal Palace team. The visitors took the lead through Eze in the 8th minute, then John Doran equalized in the 23rd minute, before Japanese Daichi Kamada scored the qualifying goal in the 64th minute.

It is noteworthy that the Carabao Cup quarter-final matches will be determined after the draw is made later Thursday morning.
