Burnley Football Club announced the appointment of Craig Bellamy as interim coach, succeeding Belgian Vincent Kompany, who left the team to coach Bayern Munich.
The British news agency (PA Media) reported that Bellamy worked as Kompany’s assistant in the team for the last two seasons, but he did not follow the example of the former captain of Manchester City and the Belgium national team in leaving for Bayern Munich.
Burnley said in a statement, today, Thursday: “After Vincent Kompany’s departure, we are already working to sign another coach.”
He added: “At the same time, the club has appointed Craig Bellamy and Mike Jackson to the positions of interim coach and assistant coach. We have great faith in Craig and Mike’s abilities and believe that their great experience and deep understanding of the club’s conditions make them the ideal candidates to lead the team at this important stage.”
The statement continued: “We will inform you of all developments regarding the permanent coach at the appropriate time.”
Kompany, who led Burnley to win the First Division title in the 2022/2023 season, took over as coach of German club Bayern Munich yesterday, Wednesday, following Burnley’s relegation from the English Premier League.
