Dan Thorn passed away at the age of 63

The singer and musician Dan Thorn He passed away today (Wednesday) at the age of 63 as a result of a serious illness. Toran was one of the most prominent creators in Israeli music starting in the 1980s, both in the songs he performed himself and in those he wrote for other artists, and also appeared as an actor and a television presenter.

Toran was born in Kibbutz Rosh Hankara in 1960 and grew up in Tel Aviv. After serving in the IDF theater, he became famous for the first time when he participated in the segment “on the irons” in “Zah Zah”. In 1985, he began writing songs, when his first published songs were those he wrote for a female singer Sharon Lifshitz – “Cinema” and “Gidi”.

In 1988, he released his first solo album as a singer, “Lo-Hama in a built area”, which included the hit “White on White”. He later released more albums, the most successful of which was “Yorad Low” in 1996. Among his hits, you turn as a lead singer: “Empires Fall Slowly”, “This Lie Again”, “Vacation My Husband”, “Another Round” and more.

In parallel with his activity as a lead singer, Toren was a member of the groups “Shunra”, “Balgan” and “The Flies”. He also wrote lyrics for many well-known songs by other artists, including Berry Sakharof (“The Guardian of the Garden”), Rami Klinstein (“You Sing on the Radio”), Yizhar Ashdot (“The Rain Has Fallen”), Yehudit Ravitz (“Longing”), Eric Einstein (“Hiking”) and more.

As an actor, Toren appeared in the films “One of our own” and “Year Zero” and in the children’s series “Rosh Gadol”. He was also one of the first presenters on the children’s channel, and presented personal programs on the radio.

Berry Sakharof paid tribute to him: “Dan was an artist at heart, a friend and close partner in creation for 35 years – we wrote together from the first album, until the last years when we worked together on his songs. Dan was there for me at the beginning, to give a guiding hand in writing when I was insecure. I thank him endlessly for that. I send a big hug to his children and Dan, I will always remember you.”
