Former US President Barack Obama visited the British government headquarters, 10 Downing Street, in London, on Monday, where he held a surprise meeting with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at three o’clock in the afternoon.
A Downing Street spokesman said that the meeting was an “unofficial courtesy visit” and was part of the former US president’s visit to London.
He added, “President Obama’s team made contact and it is clear that the Prime Minister was very happy to meet him and discuss the work of the Obama Foundation.”
Obama left the building about an hour after his meeting with Sunak and got into his car with the US Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Jane D. Hartley.
It is noteworthy that the Barack Obama Foundation is a non-profit organization focused on social mobility that was founded by the former president in 2014.
The last time Obama visited Downing Street was eight years ago in 2016, when he met with then Prime Minister David Cameron for talks before the vote on Britain’s exit from the European Union.
