Mohamed Aita Al-Fayoumi, Chairman of the House of Representatives Housing Committee, commented on the ruling of the Supreme Constitutional Court regarding the old rental law.
Al-Fayoumi said, in a telephone conversation with the media figure Faten Abdel Maboud on the “Editing Hall” program, broadcast on the “Sada Al-Balad” channel, “There is an obligation on the House of Representatives to address the file of the old rental law.”
He continued: “We are awaiting the merits of the ruling of the Supreme Constitutional Court, and then action will begin on this file within the Housing Committee of the House of Representatives.”
Al-Fayoumi said that there are 8 months remaining in this legislative term, and if the House of Representatives does not issue the law during that period, the ruling will be implemented and the courts will have the right to determine the rental value when the landlord resorts to it.
The head of the House of Representatives Housing Committee added that some cases of beneficiaries of the old rental law will be among the first groups to benefit from housing initiatives for all Egyptians.
Representative Mohamed Attia Al-Fayoumi pointed out: “The legislator must intervene and establish a mechanism and system for the rental relationship between the landlord and the tenant,” adding: “We seek to preserve the interests of both parties in the rental relationship between the landlord and the tenant in the old rental law.”
