Major General Dr. Hesham Abul Nasr, Governor of Assiut, led a supply campaign today, Sunday, targeting some food complexes and shops in the East and West districts, and some different sales outlets; to control prices and combat commercial fraud in all its forms, directing the issuance of some reports to violators.
The governor was accompanied during the tour by Dr. Mina Emad, Deputy Governor, Accountant Adly Abu Aqil, Assistant Secretary General, and Mamdouh Hammad, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Supply.
The governor surprised the food and meat chains in the eastern district and listened to a detailed explanation of the prices of basic food commodities on display such as (pasta, rice, sugar, cooking oil, flour, lentils, dairy products, cheese of various types, meat and poultry of various types, onions and vegetables), whose prices have been reduced compared to their counterparts abroad. He was reassured about the goods being sold, their prices, quality and availability in large quantities to meet the needs of citizens.
He directed the necessity of announcing prices clearly and in a manner appropriate to the consumer, as well as the discount percentage on all food products and meat, and ensuring that they are packaged in a healthy manner.
The governor also inspected the Consumer Cooperative Society on Yousry Ragheb Street in West Assiut District, and directed that a report be written against the manager of the place for not announcing the prices of food and products and taking the necessary legal measures. The governor completed his tour by inspecting some meat and fish shops and checked on the quality of the products on display, directing the intensification of cleaning work and preventing any encroachments on the street.
The governor met with a number of citizens in the street and in front of shops, listening to their opinions on prices and the availability of food commodities, as well as their needs and requests for goods, stressing the continuation of such campaigns with the participation of supply and health officials with the aim of monitoring the extent of commitment and ensuring the quality of the products on display and improving the services provided to citizens and preserving their health, combating commercial fraud, controlling goods of unknown origin and expired goods, controlling prices, especially basic commodities that citizens need daily, and revealing any violations in storage methods and validity in order to preserve citizens’ health and take legal measures against violators.
The governor also directed the heads of the centers and neighborhoods to cooperate with all parties and expand the provision of places in the centers and neighborhoods to set up awnings and food outlets without crowding or traffic congestion, especially in the areas most in need, to ease the burden on citizens, under the supervision of the Supply Directorate and all regulatory authorities to ensure the safety and quality of the products on display.
