The week of ‘Jerusalem Day’ 2024 will reach its peak on Tuesday, the eve of Jerusalem Day, and Wednesday – Jerusalem Day itself – when all the events, almost needless to say, will be marked by the war of ‘iron swords’, the abducted and kidnapped in Gaza, the martyrs, the murdered and the wounded.

In light of this, the security preparation for Jerusalem Day is at the highest alert level. Thousands of police officers are expected to be deployed throughout the city around the Jerusalem Day events, with an emphasis on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Jerusalem district police officers, with the assistance of police forces from other districts, accompanied by MGB soldiers and volunteers will engage in ongoing operational activity throughout the city to maintain public order, the safety of residents and visitors, and the direction of traffic, with an emphasis on the main events that will take place in the city, headed by the traditional ‘Dance of the Flags’ march between The city center to the Western Wall, state ceremonies to be held on Mount Herzl and Ammunition Hill and more.

Flag dance march – Wednesday, 4:00 p.m.: Starting at 2:00 p.m. (approximately), the streets (and the roads leading to them) Ben Zvi, Bezalel, King George, Keren Hayesod, Agron, Yitzhak Karib, King Shlomo, Menashe Ben Israel, the Jerusalem Brigade, paratroopers, engineering, the IDF tunnel, Haim Bar Lev towards the south, Sultan Suleiman in both directions.

In addition, the light rail will operate in a partial and split format – between the Air Force Station and Ammunition Hill, and between Sderot Herzl and the central station. It should be noted that public transportation in the area will also travel on alternative routes.

The march, despite the war, is expected to take place every year along the usual route – from the center of Jerusalem to the Western Wall through the gates of the Old City and its alleys, including passing through the Muslim Quarter. Over two thousand police officers will be active before and during the march of the flags. The police will work to secure the crowd, and to regulate pedestrian and vehicle traffic in the area, especially near the Old City. The purpose of the activity is to maintain a normal fabric of life as much as possible, and to allow both the participants of the march and the rest of the pedestrian public and worshipers of all religions to reach their destination and the district they want, and in the process also prevent incidents of friction and violence of any kind. The police call on the participants of the flag march and the entire public to obey the policemen’s instructions, to avoid any manifestation of physical and verbal violence and to allow the event to take place as a safe experience, and with full care to maintain order and the provisions of the law.
