Maccabi Tel Aviv opened the top playoffs tonight (Saturday) with a dramatic 0:2 against Bnei Sakhnin. Robbie Keen’s team almost stumbled at home against the team that last got the ticket to the playoffs, but late goals by Dor Peretz and Eran Zahavi gave them 3 important points and stopped the negative streak against the team from the sector in Bloomfield.

It was Maccabi Tel Aviv’s first victory over Bnei Sakhnin in Bloomfield in the league for the first time since three years and two months ago (!). The last time the yellows beat the team from the sector at home was when Patrick Van Valen coached them, then Itay Schechter gave 0:1 with a winning goal in the 95th minute.

There was a victory in the cup with 0:5 over Sakhnin before the departure of Vladan Ivic and Oskar Gluch in January of last season, but in the Yellow League they counted four consecutive games that ended in a draw against the team from the sector and tonight they put an end to the negative streak. As you remember, in the regular season the teams split 1:1 after Younes Melda equalized in the 88th minute.
