Manchester United is close to signing Portuguese coach Amorim sports

Portuguese Ruben Amorim is expected to be announced as the new coach of Manchester United on Thursday, after the English club reached an agreement with Sporting, leaders of the Portuguese Football League, according to reports.

The Athletic website reported that the 39-year-old coach will remain with his team, Sporting, to play its next three matches, including next week’s Champions League match against Manchester City.

Amorim is expected to begin his duties with the Red Devils during the international break next month, with his first match being away from home to Ipswich in the Premier League on the 24th of the same month.

Sky Sports reported that El Mano paid an additional sum of one million euros to Sporting, in addition to the value of the release clause of 10 million euros ($11 million) to sign the coach.

Sporting said on Tuesday in a statement that United had agreed to meet the value of the penalty clause.

Manchester United dismissed its former Dutch coach Erik Ten Hag on Monday after a disastrous start to the current season, and appointed his assistant and compatriot, former team striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, as interim coach.

The team beat Leicester City 5-2 on Wednesday in the League Cup, led by Van Nistelrooy, and qualified for the quarter-finals.

Nistelrooy said, “I came here to help the club, and I will continue to provide assistance as long as it is necessary, and in the coming days, in any capacity, I am here to help the club build the future.” Despite spending heavily in the summer transfer market, Ten Hag has paid the price for United’s poor start to the season.

Before the victory over Leicester, the team achieved one win in the last 8 matches in all competitions, and is ranked 14th in the league with 11 points from 3 wins, 2 draws and 4 defeats.
