Mauritanian authorities in the city of N’Biket Lahwash, in the far east of Mauritania, launched a series of meetings that included lectures and interventions on peaceful coexistence between citizens and refugees from neighboring Mali.
According to the Mauritanian authorities, these meetings are organized by the Coordination and Monitoring Cell for Development Programs in the Eastern Basin, with the aim of promoting peaceful coexistence and unifying efforts around local development.
The governor of the Nbeikt Lahwash district, Ibrahim Ould Mohamed Mahmoud, said, “Peaceful coexistence achieves stability and social, economic and cultural prosperity, which is what made the public authorities strive to create integrated local development that meets the aspirations of citizens.”
For his part, the representative of the Coordination Cell for Coordination and Monitoring of Development Programs for the Eastern Basin, Yahya Ould Al-Hussein, confirmed that the cell seeks, through gathering guests and hosts, to identify the problems raised in the field of public services, and the best ways to solve them.
Mauritania hosts nearly two hundred thousand Malian refugees in the Mbera camp in Hodh El Chargui state, after the outbreak of the crisis in northern Mali in 2012.
The Mauritanian government has confirmed more than once that it is making great efforts in the Malian refugee file to manage their case.
