Nine pro-Iranian fighters were killed as a result of air strikes in Deir ez-Zor in eastern Syria

The death toll from the aerial bombardment on sites and areas in Deir ez-Zor, Albukamal, and its surroundings has risen to 18 as an infinite toll. They include one Syrian civil engineer, a Syrian member working with Hezbollah, and 16 members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, according to what the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on Wednesday.

As a result of these unknown source strikes, 31 people were injured, including 21 Iranian-affiliated militias and 10 civilians.

After midnight on Monday and Tuesday, “unidentified” warplanes targeted the villa of Abdel Moneim Shihab, which the Iranian Revolutionary Guard militia uses as a communications headquarters in the Villas neighborhood in the city of Deir Ezzor, a headquarters near the Abbas area, and two sites in Albukamal near the Syrian-Iraqi border in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor. .

The Observatory indicated that the last announced American air strike was on the 2nd and 3rd of last February, targeting 28 sites in Deir ez-Zor, Al-Mayadeen, and Al-Bukamal in its eastern countryside. The strikes resulted in the killing of 34 Iranian militia members, including 6 from the Lebanese Hezbollah and 12 of Syrian nationality. .

Last December 29, 25 members of the Iranian-backed fighters were killed in air strikes, as Israeli aircraft carried out raids on points belonging to Iranian militias in the Iranian security square near the Haggana roundabout, and points in the 47th Regiment in the desert of the city of Albukamal, in addition to a militia convoy after it entered the territory. The Syrian Observatory is coming from Iraq, with headquarters, a military shipment, an ammunition warehouse, and vehicles in the city of Albukamal and its countryside near the Syrian-Iraqi border, according to the Observatory.

The World Health Organization announces the death of one of its employees

The World Health Organization said that one of its employees was killed in an air strike in Syria on Tuesday.

The organization explained that Imad Shehab, an engineer in the city of Deir ez-Zor, was killed in the early hours of Tuesday morning when his house was bombed during a series of air strikes in the region. Shehab was responsible for the organization’s water, sanitation and hygiene affairs in the city.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, said, “His sudden death is a stark reminder of the ongoing violence and suffering endured by the Syrian people. We will miss him greatly.”

America denies launching raids in Syria

On Tuesday, the United States denied launching air strikes at dawn on Syria after Syrian and Iranian official media reported that American forces bombed an area in eastern Syria, killing at least seven soldiers, one of whom belonged to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

Syrian media added that a civilian was also killed and at least 19 soldiers and 13 civilians were injured in the raids that targeted residential areas and military sites in Deir ez-Zor Governorate and also resulted in significant damage to public and private property.

Iranian media said that an advisor to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard was killed in US air strikes on eastern Syria, without revealing his rank.

“We did not launch air strikes on Syria last night,” Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh told reporters in Washington.

Forces allied with Iran in eastern Syria previously attacked 900 American forces stationed in the remote area. The United States has occasionally responded by launching strikes there on targets linked to Iran. Israel has repeatedly bombed Iranian targets in Syria, according to Reuters.

Iran says that its officers are playing an advisory role in Syria at the invitation of the Syrian regime to assist President Bashar al-Assad in the Syrian war.

Two intelligence sources in the region told Reuters that Israeli aircraft launched several raids on two sites inside the city of Deir ez-Zor and Albukamal, where Iranian Revolutionary Guard sites are located.

Western intelligence sources told Reuters that factions allied with Iran have a strong presence in Deir ez-Zor Governorate in eastern Syria, near the Iraqi border, where Tehran has expanded its military deployment.

The sources added that another raid targeted the town of Al-Mayadeen, located on the Euphrates River, which has become a main base for several Shiite factions, most of them from Iraq.

Israel, which is concerned about Iran’s growing influence in the region and its military presence in Syria, says it has launched hundreds of raids on Syria to limit Iranian proliferation. It did not comment on Tuesday’s raids.

During the past year, Israeli drone attacks focused on the border town of Albukamal, located southeast of Al-Mayadeen, which is located on a strategic supply route for factions allied with Iran that regularly send reinforcements from Iraq to Syria.

Factions allied with Iran also control large areas of the border on the Iraqi side.
