Official announcement Monday: Barcelona agrees with German Flick | sports

The Spanish newspaper “Mundo Deportivo” reported on Friday that Hansi Flick, the former coach of Bayern Munich and the German national football team, will be announced as the new technical director of the Spanish team Barcelona, next Monday.

According to the Catalan newspaper, Flick and Barcelona’s sporting director Deco made a decisive phone call the day before yesterday, Wednesday, and the details and duration of the contract were agreed upon.

The famous journalist Fabrizio Romano also revealed in his account on the X platform that the agreement was reached between Barcelona and Pini Zahavi, coach Flick’s agent.

Romano stated that the former Germany national team coach’s contract with Barca will extend until 2026, and that he will also bring German assistants with him as part of his staff.

Flick will succeed coach Xavi Hernandez, who said last January that he would leave his position at the end of the current season, before changing his decision last April after extending his contract with the club until 2025.

Flick coached Bayern in the fall of 2019, where he was initially appointed temporarily, and led the Bavarian team to win 7 titles, winning the German League twice, in addition to the German Cup, the German Super Cup, the European Champions League, the European Super Cup and the Club World Cup.

Flick led Bayern to victory over Barcelona 8-2 in the quarter-finals of the Champions League in 2020, before the German team made its way to winning the title that year.

Flick took over as coach of the German national team, succeeding Joachim Loew in 2021, but that period was not successful, as the “Machines” team was eliminated from the first round of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and Flick was forced to leave last fall after more bad results.
