Russia’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Anna Yevstineva, said on Monday that the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty between Russia and North Korea is fully consistent with the United Nations Charter, and plays a pivotal role in stabilizing the Korean Peninsula, stressing that Pyongyang has the full right to use measures. necessary to ensure its security and sovereignty.



Yevstineva indicated – during the UN Security Council meeting on North Korea – that “the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty between Russia and North Korea, which was signed on June 19, aims to play a stabilizing role in the region based on the principle of indivisibility of security, and reduce the risk of war breaking out.” On the Korean Peninsula, including the use of nuclear weapons, to be an element of the sustainable security architecture in the region.



Yevstineva confirmed – according to what was reported by the Russian “TASS” news agency – that “the provisions of the treaty, including Article 4 on mutual support in the event of an armed incursion, will be fully implemented if necessary,” adding: “The treaty is consistent with the Charter of the United Nations, and the measures “What can be taken to implement it is a matter of bilateral relations between Russia and North Korea.”



Russian diplomacy stressed that “North Korea’s leadership has every right to use measures to ensure the security and sovereignty of its country.”



It is noteworthy that Russia and North Korea signed the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty during the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Pyongyang on June 18 and 19. The treaty stipulates the consolidation and development of comprehensive strategic partnership relations, taking into account their national legislation and international obligations.
