Saudi newspaper talks about “criminal suspicion” in the incident of player Fahad Al-Muwallad | Sports

The Saudi newspaper “Al-Madina” quoted what it called “informed sources” as saying that there is a criminal suspicion in the accident of the Saudi international Fahad Al-Muwallad, a player for the Al-Shabab Club, who sustained serious injuries after falling from the balcony of his house in Dubai last Thursday.

The newspaper explained that Al-Muwallad was in Dubai to spend a vacation he obtained from his club, following his participation with the Saudi national team in the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

She revealed that “a personal friend of Fahd Al-Muwallad discovered the incident after he suddenly felt that he was not in the house. He searched for him everywhere inside the house and discovered him motionless under the balcony of the house. He immediately called the police.”

In turn, the Saudi Foreign Ministry confirmed that Al-Mawlid was admitted to intensive care in Dubai after falling from the balcony of his home in the Emirati emirate.

The Saudi Consulate in Dubai stated on the X platform that, “In reference to what was circulated in various media outlets regarding the player Fahad Al-Muwallad, the Consulate General in Dubai would like to inform that it received a report of an accident that occurred to the player in his private home in Dubai last Thursday.”

She stated that she “is still following up on the investigations with the Dubai Police General Command, and the consulate would like to clarify that the player’s health condition is under monitoring.”

The 30-year-old was involved in the accident after participating with his country’s national team in the Asian qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, where he participated as a substitute against Indonesia and China.

The Dubai Media Office reported, quoting the Dubai Police General Command, that the player “fell from the balcony of his second floor home while on a short vacation in Dubai.” It added that “the player’s health condition is under observation and he is in intensive care in a Dubai hospital.”

Al-Shabab Club said it had sent its president to Dubai “to check on the medical condition” of the player, who moved to it in 2022.

“He is currently in intensive care in a Dubai hospital, in a very critical condition, after suffering serious fractures in different parts of his body,” she said. The winger, who grew up at Al-Ittihad Club in Jeddah and played for them between 2011 and 2022, scored 17 goals in 74 international matches.

Al-Muwallad, who participated with the Green Falcons in the 2018 World Cup in Russia, had a short professional experience with the Spanish club Levante in the second half of the 2017-2018 season.

Al-Muwallad was suspended twice for doping; the first for a year between 2019 and 2020, and the second for 18 months between March 2022 and September 2023, which led to his exclusion from the Saudi national team squad for the World Cup in Qatar 2022.
