The Assassins series, Episode 15…Ivan, Emperor of Russia, killed his son…inspired by the events

I witnessed the 15th episode of The Assassins seriesStarring Karim Abdel Aziz, which is shown daily on the DMC channel, is the scene of Hassan Al-Sabah issuing the death sentence to his son Al-Hussein, after the latter killed his “nanny”. Inspired by the series, we review one of the historical stories of such a case, although the atmosphere is different, but it is similar to it in its brutality. Parents towards their children.

The story revolves around Ivan the Terrible, the fourth emperor of ancient Russia. He had a son named Ivanovich from his first wife, Anastasia Romanovna.
Ivan the Terrible was a lover of literature and music, and when he became an adult and ruled a vast empire, he defeated the states of Kazan and Astrakhan, cities in southwestern Russia today, and united them with his empire, transforming Russia from a medieval state into a majestic empire.

This prestige did not last long, as he beat his pregnant daughter-in-law on a special occasion, causing her child to miscarry. Then his son confronted him and a fight broke out between them. During a fit of anger, Ivan the Terrible hit his son on the head with a pointed stick, killing him.

The murder was immortalized by Russian realist artist Ilya Repin in one of the world’s most famous paintings, which depicts Ivan the Terrible as distressed and shocked as he realizes that he has killed his only heir.
