Today, Friday, Slovenia raised the Palestinian flag on the government building in the capital, Ljubljana, the morning after Its official recognition of the Palestinian state.

The Slovenian government placed the Palestinian flag next to its country’s flag and the European Union flag in the government building.

On Thursday, Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golub announced his country’s recognition of the State of Palestine, the fourth country to take a similar step in two days.

In an exclusive interview with Al-Arabi, Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Vajo said: “We want to discuss the horizon for the Palestinian Authority to govern Gaza and the best ways to negotiate in order to hold a peace conference.”

She stressed that the basic message of the decision to recognize the Palestinian state is a call for peace.

Vago expressed her country’s concern about “the atrocities committed against the civilian population, women and children in Gaza.”

She pointed out that Israel blatantly neglected the Court of Justice decision related to Rafah, which aims to protect civilians.

Slovenia’s recognition of the State of Palestine

In a statement following the government meeting yesterday, Thursday, Golub said: His country’s government decided to recognize Palestine as an independent, sovereign state on the 1967 borders in accordance with international law and UN Security Council resolutions.

Golub added: “This decision carries only one message, which is our request to stop hostilities (in Gaza) and the immediate release of the hostages.”

He continued: “This decision is not against the State of Israel or anyone else,” indicating that the government will refer the decision to Parliament while requesting support from representatives.

The Slovenian Parliament is expected to hold a meeting next week to discuss recognition of the State of Palestine.

And Tuesday it was announced Spain, Norway and Ireland Its recognition of the State of Palestine, which brings the number of countries recognizing it to 147 out of 193 countries in the United Nations General Assembly.

Yesterday, Thursday, the Israeli Foreign Minister hoped that the Slovenian Parliament would “refuse” to officially recognize the State of Palestine during a voting session scheduled for next Tuesday.

Israel Katz wrote on the X platform, “The Slovenian government’s decision to recommend to the Slovenian Parliament to recognize a Palestinian state is a reward for Hamas. I hope that the Slovenian Parliament will reject this recommendation,” as he put it.
