The management of the 77th Cannes International Film Festival this year revealed the winners of the “Un Certain Regard” competition, including the Saudi film “Noura,” which is the first Saudi film to participate in one of the festival’s official competitions.
The film “Noura” received a “special mention” from the competition’s jury after its world premiere on Thursday, May 23, amid its heroes and makers celebrating the global breakthrough of Saudi cinema in one of the most important cinematic forums around the world.
The Red Sea Film Foundation was keen to congratulate the makers and heroes of the film “Noura” and published a behind-the-scenes photo of the film on its official Instagram account and commented: “The Red Sea Film Foundation would like to congratulate the film Noura, directed by Tawfiq Al-Zaidi, for receiving a special mention in the Look Within Awards.” “The activities of the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, and the Red Sea Film Foundation is proud of its role in supporting this exceptional film through the Red Sea Fund.”
The events of the movie “Noura” take place in a dramatic context in the 1990s in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It revolves around “Noura”, who lives in a remote village, and her life changes when a person arrives who rekindles her passion for art. The movie stars Saudi actor Yacoub Al-Farhan, actress Maria Bahrawi, and actor Abdullah. Al-Sadhan, written and directed by Tawfiq Al-Zaidi, in collaboration with Scottish actor and screenwriter Stephen Strachan.
