The Syrian opposition enters Aleppo and takes control of its government headquarters and citadel news

The Syrian armed opposition said that its forces took control – today, Friday – of the Aleppo Citadel after announcing control of the Military College and the Artillery College in the Al-Zahraa neighborhood in the city. At dawn today, Lieutenant Colonel Hassan Abdul Ghani, spokesman for the Armed Opposition’s Military Operations Department, announced that their forces took control of the entire western Aleppo countryside, after fierce battles with Syrian regime forces that lasted 36 hours.

Control of Saraqib

On the other hand, on Friday, the armed opposition extended its control over the strategically important city of Saraqeb in Idlib Governorate, northwest of the country.

Syrian regime forces withdrew from Saraqeb after suffering heavy losses as a result of clashes with opposition armed groups, which continued for two days.

Saraqib is considered an intersection point for the M4 road, which connects the governorates of Aleppo (north) and Latakia (west), and the M5 road, which connects Aleppo to the capital, Damascus.

Yesterday, Thursday, the vicinity of the city of Saraqeb witnessed clashes with Syrian regime forces, during which the opposition forces were able to control 12 points and villages on Thursday and Friday.

Today, Friday, the opposition forces were able to control 14 villages and points in the Aleppo and Idlib countryside.

The vicinity of the strategic cities of Saraqeb (Idlib) and Nayrab (Aleppo) is witnessing violent clashes with regime forces and Iranian-backed organizations.

Thus, the Syrian armed opposition forces took control of 70 points and villages in the Aleppo and Idlib countryside, with an area exceeding 550 square kilometers.

In the clashes, a large number of Syrian regime soldiers were killed and a large number of them were captured, and the opposition forces seized large quantities of heavy and light weapons and ammunition.

For his part, a Syrian military source told Agence France-Presse that reinforcements from the Syrian army arrived in the city of Aleppo.

As developments on the ground accelerated, the Russian presidency considered what was happening in Aleppo a violation of Syria’s sovereignty.

The Kremlin called on the Syrian government to restore what it described as the constitutional order in the region as soon as possible.

In Tehran, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei denounced what he considered a violation of the de-escalation agreement in northern Syria.

For his part, the Iranian ambassador to Lebanon said, “Iran, Russia, and the axis of resistance will not allow the events of past years to be repeated in Syria.”

While he stressed that “the Syrian government is stronger than before, and Tehran will provide it with support,” he also stressed that “the armed groups in Syria will not achieve any victory.”

It is noteworthy that Moscow and Tehran are allies of Damascus and have provided it with military and political support since the outbreak of the revolution in Syria in 2011, which enabled it to recover large parts of the lands that the factions controlled at the beginning of the conflict.
