WhatsApp introduces a new feature to protect users’ “profile picture” on Android

Taking screenshots of your contacts’ profile photos will no longer be allowed. In an effort to enhance user safety, the Whatsapp Android users are able to take screenshots of other users’ profile pictures.

However, the iPhone can still take screenshots of profile photos, and although people have the option to hide their profile photos from contacts they haven’t saved, the new step taken by WhatsApp will prevent people from misusing other people’s photos.

According to a report by Android Police, WhatsApp was seen working on a new feature in February 2024, and although Meta did not say anything about it officially, they seem to be testing it a lot. It is worth noting that the feature is on by default, and you cannot manually turn the feature on or off. Turn it on, you won’t be able to take a screenshot even if you haven’t updated your WhatsApp app.

If you want to keep your WhatsApp profile picture hidden from some people, or from everyone completely, follow these steps to hide your profile picture from specific contacts.
