Zelensky President of UkraineKiev announced that it will participate in the next G7 summit scheduled for June in Italy, either online or in person, according to Sergei Nikiforov, spokesman for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, on Monday.
Nikiforov told Ukrainian television: “I cannot confirm or deny President Zelensky’s physical participation in the G7 summit, but in any case he will participate, whether online or in person.”
Means of using interest on frozen Russian assets to provide new aid to Ukraine will be among the main discussion points on the agenda of the summit, which will be held in southern Italy from June 13 to June 15.
In recent days, Zelensky has made several foreign visits to secure support before the summit on Ukraine scheduled for June 15 and 16 in Switzerland, to which Russia was not invited.
Zelensky visited several European capitals and also went to Singapore and the Philippines.
Zelensky’s statements about the peace summit in Switzerland
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that he was “disappointed that some leaders have not yet confirmed their participation in the peace summit” in Ukraine scheduled to be held in Switzerland this June.
China said that its President Xi Jinping will not participate in the summit unless Russia is invited to it, while US President Joe Biden has not yet announced his commitment to attend.
Zelensky said without mentioning China or the United States by name, but he pointed out that China is working hard to prevent some countries from participating in the peace summit.
He pointed out that more than a hundred countries and organizations have committed to participating in this summit scheduled to be held in June in Switzerland, and he urged countries in the Asia-Pacific region to attend.
Zelensky’s meeting with the US Secretary of Defense
On the other hand, Zelensky held a “very good” meeting on Sunday with US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin in Singapore on the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue at a time when the Ukrainian president is seeking strong Western support in the face of Russian advances on the ground.
In response to journalists’ questions upon leaving the hall, the Ukrainian president said that the meeting was “very good.”
Zelensky announced the opening of an embassy in the Philippines
A statement on the official website of the Ukrainian presidency said on Monday that Zelensky’s meeting with his Filipino counterpart took place after his participation in the Shangri-La Dialogue summit of the International Institute for Strategic Studies. The two sides discussed issues of bilateral cooperation, especially the supply of Ukrainian agricultural products to the Philippines.
