After months of low polling numbers and criticism from his own party, Rep. Dean Phillips lost in a landslide to President Joe Biden in his home state’s Democratic primary in Minnesota, but his sense of humor remained strong.
Less than an hour after the Minnesota Democrat lost, he took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to “congratulate” his opponents.
“Congratulations to Joe Biden, Uncommitted, Marianne Williamson, and Nikki Haley for demonstrating more appeal to Democratic Party loyalists than me,” Philips said in the post.

Phillips came in behind Biden and the “uncommitted” option on the ballot. The congressman announced that he would not be seeking re-election in Minnesota’s 3rd Congressional District weeks after he launched his presidential bid, provoking the ire of his Democratic colleagues in Congress.

Before representing Minnesota’s 3rd District, which includes Minneapolis’ western suburbs, Phillips was a businessman, overseeing multiple companies, including Minnesota-based brewing company Phillips Distilling and Talenti Gelato.
The congressman won his seat in 2018, becoming the first Democrat to represent the state’s 3rd District in nearly 60 years.
