KUNA: Biographies of members of the new Kuwaiti government headed by Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah – Government

Kuwait – May 12 (KUNA) — An Amiri decree was issued today, Sunday, to form the new Kuwaiti government headed by Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.

Below are the biographies of members of the new government formation:

Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah… Prime Minister:

He was born in 1952 and studied at the Oriental School and then the American Boarding School in Lebanon. He traveled to the United States and joined the University of Illinois. He specialized in studying bank finance and investments and graduated in 1976.

He worked in the Kuwait Financial Center until 1978, then he worked in the Central Bank until 1987, and his last position was Director of the Banking Supervision Department.

He served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Burgan Bank between 1987 and 1998.

In July 1999, he was appointed Minister of Finance and Minister of Transportation.

On February 14, 2001, he was appointed Minister of Transportation.

On July 14, 2003, he was appointed Minister of Transportation, Minister of Planning, and Minister of State for Administrative Development Affairs.

On June 15, 2005, he was appointed Minister of Transportation and Minister of Health.

On February 9, 2009, he was appointed Minister of Oil.

On May 29, 2009, he was appointed Minister of Oil and Minister of Information.

On September 20, 2021, the Council of Ministers approved a draft decree appointing Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah as Head of the Court of His Highness the Crown Prince, with the rank of minister.

Sheikh Fahd Yousef Saud Al-Sabah… First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and Minister of Interior:

He was born in 1959 and graduated from the Military College in Kuwait. After graduating, he worked as an officer in the Amiri Guard in the Kuwaiti Army and progressed through the ranks until he retired with the rank of Colonel.

Sharida Abdullah Saad Al-Maousherji.. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs:

– Born in Kuwait in 1952.

– He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Kuwait University 1974.

– Master of Business Administration from the University of Hartford, USA, in 1980.

– Assistant Secretary-General for Administrative, Financial and Technical Affairs in the National Assembly 1983 – 1993.

– Secretary-General of the National Assembly 1993 – 2007.

– Minister of Transportation and Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs 2007.

– Minister of Justice and Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs 2012.

– Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, January 2024.

Dr. Imad Muhammad Abdulaziz Al-Ateeqi.. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Oil:

– He holds a master’s degree and then a doctorate in chemical engineering in 1985 from Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, USA.

– Faculty member in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the College of Engineering and Petroleum at Kuwait University.

He worked as Director of the Petroleum, Petrochemicals and Materials Department at the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research from 1988 to 1990.

He worked as Director of the Research Department at Kuwait University from 1991 to 1994.

– Dean of the College of Engineering and Petroleum at Kuwait University from 1998 to 2000.

He served as the founding Secretary-General of the General Secretariat of the Council of Private Universities from 2003 to 2010.

– President of the American University of the Middle East in Kuwait from 2011 to 2018.

– Member of the Supreme Petroleum Council in Kuwait from 1990 to 2013, where he chaired the Strategy Committee and participated in other technical committees.

He has extensive research, more than 80, in engineering, simulation and control of oil refining, analysis of its derivatives, and the economics of refining, petrochemicals, and other chemical processes. These papers are published in peer-reviewed scientific journals, conference proceedings, and specialized books.

Abdul Rahman Baddah Abdul Rahman Al Mutairi.. Minister of Information and Culture:

– He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Supportive Psychology and Political Science from the Faculty of Social Sciences at Kuwait University.

– Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs in December 2020 and retained the same position in the government formed in March 2021.

– On October 16, 2022, he was reappointed to the same position.

– In April 2023, he was reappointed to the same position.

In June 2023, a decree was issued appointing him as Minister of Information and Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs.

In January 2024, a decree was issued appointing him as Minister of Information and Culture.

– He assumed the position of Director General of the General Youth Authority in 2016.

– Assistant Undersecretary for the Youth Development Sector in the Office of the Minister of State for Youth Affairs 2014-2015.

– Director of the Technical Office of the Office of the Minister of Information 2012.

– Monitor of the Office of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information 2011 and media attaché to the Kuwaiti Media Office in Rabat 2004-2007.

Dr. Ahmed Abdel Wahab Al-Awadhi.. Minister of Health:

– He holds a doctorate degree in pediatrics (Kuwait Board) from the Kuwait Institute for Medical Specialties.

– Doctorate in Medicine (MD) from the Arabian Gulf University in the Kingdom of Bahrain and a Bachelor’s degree in basic sciences from the same university.

– He was appointed on October 16, 2022, Minister of Health.

– He worked as a pediatric consultant and director of Wara Hospital in the private sector.

– He worked as director of the Kuwait Cancer Control Center in the Al-Sabah Specialized Medical District.

– Director of the Palliative Care Center in the same region, Director of Mubarak Al-Kabeer Hospital, Acting Director of the Jahra Health District, and Director of Al-Jahra Hospital.

Dr. Anwar Ali Abdullah Al-Mudhaf… Minister of Finance and Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Investment:

– He holds a PhD from Claremont Graduate University in the United States of America and a Master’s in Business Administration from the same university.

– Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ahli United Bank – Kuwait since April 27, 2014, and a member of the Board of Directors of Ahli United Bank in Bahrain since March 22, 2023, and a member of the Board of Governors of the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies.

– He was a member of the economic work team to confront the effects of the global crisis on the Kuwaiti economy.

– Minister of Finance and Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Investment, January 2024.

Dr. Adel Muhammad Abdullah Al-Adwani… Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research:

– He holds a PhD from the University of South Africa, specializing in information systems.

– Faculty member in the Department of Information Systems and Operations Management at the College of Administrative Sciences at Kuwait University.

He began his professional career in 1996, where he worked in the Department of Business Administration at Kuwait University with the rank of Assistant Professor, and in 2000 he was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor.

In 2005, he was promoted to become a professor, which he still holds to this day.

He assumed the position of Deputy Director of Kuwait University for Academic Support Services from 2006 to 2008.

Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Yahya.. Minister of Foreign Affairs:

He was born in 1966 and holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Western Oregon State University in the United States in 1988.

He served as Assistant Secretary of State for Administrative and Financial Affairs in August 2023.

He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1995 and worked as a diplomatic attaché in the Kuwaiti mission to the Federal Republic of Germany in 1995.

He served as Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Saud Al-Nasser Kuwait Diplomatic Institute until 2018. He was appointed in the same year as the Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to Argentina. He was also appointed as a non-resident ambassador to Paraguay in 2019 and an assigned ambassador to Eastern Uruguay in the same year.

Dr. Noura Muhammad Khaled Al-Mashaan… Minister of Public Works and Minister of Municipality:

– Born in 1981.

– She holds a doctorate in civil engineering from Johns Hopkins University in the United States of America.

– She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Kuwait University.

– Faculty member (Associate Professor) in the Department of Civil Engineering at the College of Engineering and Petroleum at Kuwait University.

– Engineering consultant at the Kuwait Ports Corporation.

– Chairman of the Consulting and Training Committee in the Civil Engineering Department at the College of Engineering and Petroleum at Kuwait University.

– Member of the Supreme Committee of the International Conference on Sustainable Infrastructure Challenges.

– Publishing many peer-reviewed scientific papers in approved fields, participating in international and local engineering conferences, and obtaining awards.

– Member of international and local specialized societies.

Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim Muhammad Al-Wasmi.. Minister of Justice and Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs:

Associate Professor of Commercial and Maritime Law at the Faculty of Law, Kuwait University.

– He holds a Doctorate in Philosophy of Law from Brunel University, United Kingdom, 2012.

– He holds a Master’s degree in International Trade Law from London Metropolitan University, United Kingdom, 2006.

– He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the Faculty of Law at Kuwait University in 2001.

Omar Saud Abdulaziz Al Omar.. Minister of Trade and Industry and Minister of State for Communications Affairs:

– Born in 1966.

– He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of California, Sacramento, USA, in 1994.

– He held several administrative positions at the General Investment Authority as an internal auditor, covering the companies affiliated with the Investment Authority and funds in the local and international markets.

– CEO of Zain Kuwait from 2013 – 2015.

– Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Authority from August 2022 to date.

Dr. Mahmoud Abdulaziz Mahmoud Bushehri…Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy and Minister of State for Housing Affairs:

– He holds a doctorate in economics with a supporting specialization in statistics from North Carolina State University in the United States of America in 2001.

He worked as Director of the Quantitative Methods and Modeling Department at the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) and then as Director of the Studies and Capital Markets Development Department at the Capital Markets Authority.

He held many advisory positions in the country, in addition to chairing many research projects related to energy, water, consumer and production support systems, reform of public economic and financial policies, and development of financial markets.

He participated in many local and international conferences as a speaker or member of the higher organizational committees and scientific committees of these conferences. He was also a visiting researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the years 2010-2011.

Dr. Mathal Hadi Hayef Al-Huwaila.. Minister of Social Affairs, Labor, Family and Childhood Affairs and Minister of State for Youth Affairs:

– Doctorate in Cognitive Psychology, Faculty of Arts, Cairo University, 2008.

– Master’s in Clinical Psychology, Faculty of Social Sciences, Kuwait University, 2001.
