Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez lead Inter Miami rout over Orlando City

From the moment the game kicked off, Inter Miami pushed down on the accelerator and never let go. Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi scored twice, respectively, Robert Taylor also got on the scoresheet as Miami thrashed Orlando City 5-0 on Saturday afternoon at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale. The loss, Orlando’s first of the season, put the Lions winless in their first two games of the regular season following last weekend’s scoreless draw against Montreal. Orlando has also not scored a goal during those two games.“Obviously a very disappointing day for us,” said Orlando coach Oscar Pareja after the game. “Recognizing from minute one to the end of the game, that didn’t look like us in many areas and obviously in a team like them , we cannot permit to have that many spaces and lose many duels and give them that possibility to be sitting in our box, in those counterattacks.” Suarez opened the scoring in the fourth minute and secured his brace in the 11th minute. Robert Taylor made it 3-0 in the 29th minute. Messi scored in the 57th and 62nd minute to cap the scoring for Inter Miami. “There’s no excuse, they were better than us, and we didn’t do a good job today,” Pareja said. “We didn’t show up today the way we are and we will take that responsibility, and it’s a very bad day to say it in front of our fans but we have the responsibility to get better.” Slovenian centerback David Brekalo appeared on the bench on Saturday for Orlando. According to Pareja, he’s still working to get physically up to par and was not 100% available against Miami. Orlando is back in action on Tuesday in the Concacaf Champions Cup against Liga MX side Tigres UANL for the first-leg of the Round of 16. Kickoff at Inter&Co Stadium is set for 9 p.m.
