In the shadow of the ‘Iron Swords’ war, which since broke out on the Black Saturday of the 7/10, more than 1,300 martyrs and murdered have been added to the circle of national bereavement, today, Sunday, May 12, the Day of Remembrance for the fallen of Israel’s systems and victims of hostilities will be observed. It will be the most difficult Memorial Day since the Yom Kippur War, if not the most difficult since the establishment of the state.
Throughout Jerusalem, as every year, there will be memorial events and various state ceremonies, as well as local and neighborhood ceremonies. The spotlight will, obviously, be directed to the victims of ‘iron systems’, but the memory of the victims and those murdered since the establishment of the state will not be remembered either. The public, of course, is invited to participate in the various ceremonies and events and remember the best of his sons and daughters.
“In recent months, Jerusalem has lost some of its best sons and daughters, who fell in the various battlefields and were murdered in the terrible massacre of the 7/10,” Mayor Moshe Leon points out. “This year we will all gather together here in Jerusalem, the eternal capital of the Jewish people, we will remember, embrace and hurt. Sunday, 12.5, the eve of Memorial Day
16:00 – A memorial rally for the martyrs of Israel’s armed forces, marking the events of October 7, at the “Yad Labanim” house. The rally was attended by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana, ministers, the chief rabbi and the mayor of Leon, and led by Gilad Adin. At the ceremony, we will hear the story of the twins Osher and Michael and the late Kanin, producers of the Nova Festival who were murdered in the disaster, from their mother Rachel Malka.
21:30 – an evening of warrior songs. Beit Ha’am cultural hall. The ceremony will be attended by Iris Haim, the mother of the abducted Yotam Haim, and the artists Rita, Tamir Greenberg and Yonatan Dror will appear.

Monday, May 13, Memorial Day
9:00 – Memorial Day ceremony. Safra Square. With the participation of bereaved families, IDF soldiers, guests and municipality employees. At the ceremony, a memorial torch will be lit by the mayor together with Sigal Tahar, the mother of the late Corporal Adir Tahar. Kaddish will be recited by Ayoub Goshen, a municipality employee, the father of Sam The late Rabbi Oriya Goshen, a Givat patrolman.
