Arteta criticizes Arsenal’s performance in the Manchester United match
League Plus – Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta criticized his team’s performance despite beating Manchester United with a clean goal at Old Trafford in the English Premier League.
Arteta said in press statements after the match: “We needed a result today in a really difficult place.”
He added: “Our history was not in our favor of achieving today’s result. There was a lot at stake and we are happy with the result.”
He continued: “We started the match really well and we were in control. We scored the goal and I think the goal led to somewhat bad things because we started playing very safely, very sideways and very backwards without sufficient structure.”
He continued: “We started to lose the ball in good areas and this poses a danger to them, but we defended well and did not concede much.”
He continued: “Today we were not calm enough, coherent enough and doing the simple things correctly. This does not give you control of the match.”
He concluded: “Some players were not in this situation. They do not know what is at stake and how you feel emotionally about the necessity of winning and then winning in December or January. It is an exceptional thing they do.”
