The commander of US Central Command visits Israel in the midst of tension with Iran

Israelis living in cities and towns near the borders of the Gaza Strip expressed their concerns about the targeting of their areas, following the strike attributed to Israel that targeted the Iranian consulate in Damascus.

According to a report published by the networkSky NewsThe British newspaper said that many residents in Ashkelon, which is about 10 kilometers from the Gaza Strip, are accustomed to living amid attempts to target their city with missiles from the Gaza Strip, but they are “deeply concerned” about air attacks that Iran may carry out.

While Corinne Peretz celebrated her son’s birthday in a local restaurant near the seashore, she said: “I hope nothing happens from Iran. It is very terrifying.”

She added: “Today we celebrate my son’s birthday. I couldn’t sleep at night. I was always worried about this situation. I hope everything will end. It’s not comfortable, and I don’t think I’m feeling very well.”

She continued: “Our life here in Israel is not safe now, but there is no other place to live.”

According to the British network’s report, the Israelis know that the Iranian attack will bring a response from the Israeli army, and with it the chance of a much broader regional war.

In this regard, Victor Natanzon, who goes out for a walk on the Corniche in Ashkelon, stated that his mind is preoccupied with events threatening the country, and that he has “great concerns” about the outbreak of war with Iran.

He added: “I am always worried. The whole world should be worried.”

He continued: “I’m not looking for big battles or big wars. I personally think we need to strive to find peaceful solutions, but we need to choose the right people we talk to.”

Iran had vowed revenge after two Revolutionary Guard leaders were killed in an air strike on the consulate in Syria.

The United States warned that an Iranian missile attack on Israeli territory may be imminent, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made it clear that his country is prepared for all eventualities.

Washington had denied its involvement in the consulate strike.

He added: “We are in difficult times, and we are in the midst of the war in Gaza, which is still continuing in full force. At the same time, we continue our ongoing efforts to return the hostages, but we are also preparing for challenging scenarios from other arenas.”

He added: “We have established a simple principle that says (whoever harms us, we harm him). We are preparing to meet the security needs of the State of Israel in defense and attack.”

The United States hopes that Israel’s security guarantees will serve as a deterrent to Iran, as President Joe Biden stated that they serve as a warning to Tehran.

He continued: “As I told Prime Minister Netanyahu, our commitment to Israel’s security against these threats from Iran and its proxies is strong, and we say it again firmly that we will do everything in our power to protect Israel’s security.”
