Two generals were appointed to significant positions today. Eliezer Chaney Marom, for the northern projector, and Viftach Ron Tal, for the head of Takuma’s directorate. Both are generals in the military, one was the commander of the navy, the other the commander of the ground forces, respectively, one was released from the IDF, with a note on his record from the Chief of Staff about hanging out at a strip club, and the other under unsympathetic circumstances, following suspicions of receiving assistance from the IDF D. Illegally, and then attacking a serving Chief of Staff in the media.
But this is more or less where the similarity ends. While the Northern Projector is Cheney’s first public position, and therefore the burden of proof rests on him, it seems that Ron Tal, who over the years has expressed right-wing views, and was even a candidate on the Likud list and ran for the position of chairman of the Jewish Home, which he lost to Rafi Peretz, was a candidate for any position imaginable.
And here is a partial list, not necessarily in chronological order, of the variety of positions that his name has been associated with: he was a candidate for the Commissioner of Police, for the head of the Shufersal Board of Directors, the chairman of the Post Office, the director general of the Ministry of Finance, the civil project of “Iron Swords”, the chairman of the Authority Securities and chairman of an electricity company in a second term. Is there a common denominator for all these positions? Yes. They are all very senior positions. Does Ron Tal have a specific specialization that qualifies him for them, beyond his political positions? Not sure.
What’s more, in none of the positions he held, as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Israel Ports Company, Chairman of the Electricity Company and Chairman of Migdal, he did not shine, which did not stop him, as soon as he finished one position, to rush towards finding the next important position.
