Morocco’s RS Berkane scored two goals in the first half to win 2-1 over its guest, Zamalek of Egypt, in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup final on Sunday at the municipal stadium in Berkane.

The return match will be held at Cairo International Stadium next Sunday, and Nahdet Berkane, the two-time champion of the competition, is sufficient to draw or win with any result to achieve the title, while Zamalek needs to win 1-0 or by a two-goal difference to win the championship for the second time.

Nahdet Berkane, supported by thousands of fans, put pressure on them, and their players had several chances in the first minutes of the match before the energetic Youssef Al-Fahli got a penalty kick after a lengthy review by the video assistant referee technology after being obstructed by Hossam Abdel Majeed.

Issoufou Dayo was able to calmly convert the penalty kick past Zamalek goalkeeper Mohamed Awad in the 13th minute after he shot to the left of the visitors’ goalkeeper.

Defender Adel Tahif increased RS Berkane’s lead in the 32nd minute with a header from close range after a free kick from the right side.

Hamza Al-Hamiani, Berkane’s goalkeeper, saved his team from conceding a goal in the last minutes of the first half after a cross pass from Ahmed Fattouh, which was met by Saif Al-Din Al-Jaziri with a perfect header, but Al-Hamiani brilliantly removed the ball to a corner.

Zamalek reduced the score immediately after the end of the break with a header from Al-Jaziri after a perfect cross pass from Ahmed Sayed (Zizou).

RS Berkane almost added the third goal when striker Youssef Mehri shot from outside the area in the 62nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar.

Zamalek responded 4 minutes later with a shot from Zizou that hit the right post and went into a goal kick.
