Bayer Leverkusen strengthened its lead in the German Football League (Bundesliga) standings after defeating its host Cologne on Sunday in the 24th round of the competition.

Leverkusen raised its score to 64 points at the top of the standings, 10 points ahead of Bayern Munich, the second-placed team, the title holder for the last 11 seasons.

Leverkusen became the first team to lead Bayern by 10 points in the German League since Borussia Dortmund at the end of the 2010-2011 season.

On the other hand, Cologne’s score froze at 17 points in 16th place.

Leverkusen’s goals were scored by Jeremy Frimpong in the 37th minute, and Alejandro Grimaldo in the 73rd minute.

The match began under pressure from Leverkusen, whose attack was led by Czech Patrik Cech, with the support of the duo Florian Fritz and Jonas Hoffman.

Leverkusen took control of the match and threatened Cologne’s goalkeeper, Marvin Schop, on more than one occasion, but the latter blocked the attacking attempts.
