Zakat al-Fitr and God’s right to money are rulings and purposes

26 Ramadan 1445 AH April 5, 2024 AD

Praise be to God. He guided creation to the most perfect manners, and opened for them from the treasures of His mercy and His presence every door. He illuminated the eyes of the believers so they realized the truths and attained reward. He blinded the eyes of those who turned away from obeying Him, so a veil became between them and His light. He guided those by His grace and led those astray with His wisdom and justice. Indeed, in that is My remembrance for those of understanding. I bear witness that there is no god but God alone, without partner, the Mighty King and Giver, and I bear witness that our Master Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, sent with the most sublime of worship and the most perfect of morals. May God’s prayers and peace be upon him and all his family and companions and those who follow them with goodness until the Day of Resurrection and peace be upon him.

The first element of the sermon next Friday, April 5, 2024 AD: Zakat al-Fitr and God’s right to money.. rulings and purposes.

Firstly: { And spend from that in which He has made you successors.

*Servants of God: This money that is in our hands is God’s money, and God has appointed us as successors in it. We and what is in our hands belong to God. The Almighty said: {To God belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all that is in them, and He has power over all things. (120)} (Al-Maeda).

*Money is a blessing that God has bestowed upon His servants, so it is the duty of the Muslim servant to look from where he acquires the money and what he spends it on. On the authority of Muadh bin Jabal, he said: The Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, said: “The feet of a servant will not move on the Day of Resurrection until he is asked about four characteristics: About his life and how he spent it? about his youth where did he spend it? And about his money, where did he earn it and what did he spend it on? And what did he know about it? (The Great Dictionary of Al-Tabarani).

And God Almighty said: { Believe in Allah and His Messenger, and spend from that in which He has made you successors. For those of you who believe and spend will have a great reward (7)} (Al-Hadid).

So you are left behind in this money. You are left behind by your Lord Almighty so that He may see your work. Are you steadfast in obeying Him and performing His rights, or do you follow your desires and obey your devil and stop at what your soul wants? Conscience The heart is at ease regarding what comes and leaves, based on insight and guidance. Whoever follows desires and the devil and does not abide by the commands of God will lose this world and the hereafter.

*Allah says: {And give it its due on the day of its harvest} (Al-An’am). Contemplate and know that money has a right on our necks. God Almighty commands us to pay it to its owners. Consider the accuracy of this system that was established by the Creator of the people and the extent of its fairness. The benefit accrues to the spender before the one spent on it. We own the land. So it produces for us some of its bounties Without any power or strength on our part, but rather by His power and will, the Almighty, the Provider and Giver of all these blessings, commands us to give the poor person his right to it, and if He had wished, He would have made him the owner of it. We are poor and have little in giving, so many of us refuse anything but stinginess and miserliness, so we supply ourselves with fires, and they become poor. What a loss, so look By your Lord, O Fair One, if the creatures had acted under the guidance of the Creator and given the charity they owed, there would not have been a person left on their backs complaining of poverty and deprivation, and harmony would have replaced discord, and harmony would have replaced discord. If you looked carefully at most crimes, you would find that the first reason is money. The rich enjoy all other things. Kinds Blessings, and the poor person’s heart is broken by what he appears to have of beautiful clothing, delicious food, and luxurious amenities. Poverty, hatred, and hunger push him to commit theft, plunder, plunder, and murder. God Almighty alone knows that the consequences of these sins do not fall on the offender alone, but rather on the victim, so let him take the initiative. Whoever fears God and fears Him, and is wary of the punishment of the hereafter and the misery of this world, and to give what is on his neck of the zakat of his wealth and the alms that his Lord has made obligatory upon him, willingly and with pure intentions, then in this is the greatest bliss, and the most abundant goodness. (The Most Clear of Interpretations).

Servants of God: The wisdom of God Almighty required that there be among the people, rich and poor, so that they may all cooperate in rebuilding the earth. Because, Glory be to Him, if He had created them all rich, their interests would have been invalidated, and life would have no meaning, and if He had created them all poor, their livelihood would have been corrupted and their lives would have been miserable. But the Wise, the All-Aware, willed that some people should be provided for from the hands of other people, and that the rich should be given to some people so that they might give to others, for the benefit of humanity. The superiority of some of them over others in livelihood God Almighty said: “And God has favored some of you over others in provision” (71) (32)} (Al-Zukhruf). And God tested the rich with his wealth to see whether he would give what is right or be miserly. Likewise, He tested the poor with his poverty to see whether he should be chaste and patient or enter the gate of the forbidden? God Almighty has sent down sustenance sufficient for everyone. The hunger of the poor and the need of the needy result from the miserliness of some of the rich. On the authority of Muhammad ibn Ali, it is narrated that Ali said: Indeed, God Almighty has imposed an obligation on the rich in the world. Give them what is sufficient for the poor, whether they are hungry, or naked, or struggling, So by withholding the rich, and it is the duty of God, Blessed and Most High, to hold them accountable and punish them (The Book of Money by Al-Qasim bin Salam).

The second element of the sermon next Friday, April 5, 2024 AD: Zakat al-Fitr and God’s right to money.. rulings and purposes.

Second: Purification for the fasting person and food for the poor.

God Almighty does not charge us with anything except that there is wisdom in it, which is apparent to some and hidden to others. Zakat al-Fitr, the Beloved, may God bless him and grant him peace, has explained to us the wisdom of imposing it and enjoining it:

*It purifies the fasting person from idle talk and obscenity, so it removes the defects and shortcomings that were present in fasting. It also provides food for the poor, frees them from begging, and brings joy to their hearts. This appears clearly in the hadith of Ibn Abbas, who said: “The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, imposed zakat al-fitr.” To purify the fasting person from idle talk and obscenity. And as food for the needy. Whoever gives it before prayer, it is an accepted zakat, and whoever gives it after prayer, it is a form of charity. (Sunan Abi Dawud).

*Zakat al-Fitr reminds the Muslim of his responsibility to spend, because he is obligated to pay it on behalf of himself, his family, and on behalf of those whom he is obligated to support, and it accustoms the Muslim to adhering to the time. Its time is specific and the Muslim must pay it at that time, otherwise it becomes general charity and not Zakat al-Fitr, on the authority of Ibn Omar, may God be pleased with them both He said: “The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, imposed zakat al-fitr as a saa’ of dates, or a saa’ of barley on the slave and the free, the male and the female, and the young and old of the poor. Why, and he ordered it to be performed before the people went out to pray.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari).

* Likewise, it is zakat for the body that God has spared for a number of years, so it is obligatory for the young and the insane who cannot fast, and it is a way of thanking God for bestowing His blessings upon His servants with fasting, and the reward and great reward that the one who performs it deserves is sufficient because it is compliance with the command of God Almighty, and zakat is an increase and purification of money. It does not decrease wealth, but rather increases it. It spreads affection and mercy among Muslims, and establishes love in their hearts. The rich person has compassion for the poor and his heart is tender for him, so he does good to him and gives of his money to him. Thus, the soul of the poor is purified towards the rich, because souls are created to love those who are good to them.

The third element of the sermon next Friday, April 5, 2024 AD: Zakat al-Fitr and God’s right to money.. rulings and purposes.

Third: Charity is one of the greatest means of removing calamity.

* One of the greatest things by which God Almighty removes punishment is charity, on the authority of Adi bin Hatim: The Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, mentioned the Fire and looked away from it, so he sought refuge from it. Then he mentioned the Fire and looked away from it. So he sought refuge from it, then said: “Fear the Fire, even if it is with half a date. Whoever does not find it, then with a kind word.” “.(Sahih Bukhari).

* It is one of the best deeds, for it extinguishes sins, and God Almighty repel calamities through it, on the authority of Muadh bin Jabal, who said: I was with the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, on a journey, and one day I became close to him while we were walking. So I said: O Messenger of God, tell me about a deed that will take me into Paradise and keep me away from Hell. He said: You asked me about something great, and it is easy for whomever God has made it easy for him. You worship God and do not associate anything with Him, and you perform prayer and you pay zakat. And you fast Ramadan and perform Hajj to the House. Then he said: Shall I not guide you to the gates of goodness? Fasting is a shield, and charity extinguishes sin just as Water extinguishes fire, and the man’s prayer in the middle of the night. He said: Then he recited {Their sides should avoid their beds}, until he reached {they work}, then he said: Don’t I Is your news about the head of the whole matter, its pillar, and the top of its hump? I said: Yes, O Messenger of God. He said: The head of the matter is Islam, its pillar is prayer, and its peak is jihad. Then he said: Shall I not inform you of the meaning of all that? I said: Yes, O Prophet of God, so he took hold of his tongue and said: Stop this, so I said: O Prophet of God, will we be held accountable for what we speak? He said: May your mother be bereaved of you, O Muadh. Is there anything that topples people on their faces or on their noses into Hell other than the harvests of their tongues? (Sunan al-Tirmidhi).

(Charity extinguishes sin) extinguishes the fire that was caused by the act of sin in the afterlife, or sin is a fire in the heart, so charity extinguishes it. (Just as water extinguishes fire), so the one who has committed a sin should give alms as a result of it. (Al-Tanwir Sharh Al-Jami’ Al-Saghir).

Charity extinguishes the wrath of the Lord, on the authority of Abu Umamah, who said: The Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, said: “Doing good deeds protects against the battles of evil, and giving charity in secret extinguishes the wrath of the Lord, and maintaining ties of kinship strengthens D in life.” (The Great Dictionary of Al-Tabarani).

Oh God, grant our souls their piety, and purify them. You are the best of those who purify them. You are their guardian and guardian. Oh God, make Egypt safe, secure, peaceful, generous, and prosperous, and all other Muslim countries. Oh God, protect them from all harm and evil, with your mercy, O Most Merciful of the Merciful, and may God’s blessings and peace be upon you. Between us Muhammad and his family and all his companions .

And Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds.

Written by him, hoping for his Lord’s forgiveness

Dr. Omar Mustafa Mahfouz
