Opening of an archive of antique books in Beijing

BEIJING, April 15, 2024 (Xinhua) An archive containing more than 40,000 antique books has been opened in Beijing.

The archive is affiliated with the People’s Educational Publishing House, a well-known publishing house in China, and its collection consists mainly of manuscripts and woodblock print books in the traditional form bound with string, according to a press release issued by the publishing house earlier this week.

The collection includes ancient classics, historical and literary books, as well as some rare editions of textbooks published in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Wang Riqun, editor-in-chief of the publishing house, said that antique books are an important vessel of Chinese cultural traditions.

Wang continued that the archive will make every effort to digitize its collection and reprint books of academic interest.
