Omar Al-Mahlawi, the grandson of Sheikh Ahmed Al-Mahlawi, announced his death today, Sunday, at the age of 98.
The funeral of the late sheikh’s body is scheduled to take place after the noon prayer today from the Husseiniya cemetery in the Abis area, east of Alexandria, according to his family.
Sheikh Ahmed Al-Mahlawi was born on July 1, 1925 in Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate. He graduated from the Sharia Judiciary Department at the Faculty of Sharia, Al-Azhar University in 1957. He worked as an imam and preacher at the Ministry of Endowments.
The Ministry of Endowments issued a decision banning Sheikh Al-Mahlawi from preaching and ascending to the “Commander Ibrahim” pulpit in 1996, and the ban continued until on February 4, 2011, the sheikh gave a sermon at the Commander Ibrahim Mosque for the first time in 15 years.
