15-year maximum imprisonment for the Uber driver accused in the Habiba Al-Shamaa case

The Cairo Criminal Court, held in the Fifth Settlement, ruled to punish the Uber driver accused of attempted kidnapping Habiba Al-Shamma “Shorouk Girl” was sentenced to 15 years in prison, fined 50,000 pounds, canceled her driver’s license, and referred the civil lawsuit to the competent court.

Habiba Al-Shamaa died on March 14 as a result of her injuries after jumping from an Uber driver’s car.

The Public Prosecution ordered that the accused of attempting to kidnap the victim, Habiba Al-Shamaa, be referred to the competent criminal court. To punish him on charges of attempting to kidnap her by force, possession of narcotic cannabis essence in circumstances other than those permitted by law, and driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of that drug.

It was proven from the Public Prosecution’s investigations that by asking the first person to see the victim – trying to help her – after she threw herself from the accused’s car, she mentioned to him that the accused wanted to kidnap her, and she said in text: “Uber wanted to kidnap me,” and that the legal representative of “Uber” company He testified that the accused had previously had his account closed through the company’s application, due to the large number of complaints from users of the application against him, but he created another account by using another national number through which he was able to reuse the application. The Public Prosecution copied a copy of the papers that it allocated to investigate this forgery incident, as well as I reviewed the complaints filed against the accused in the company where he works, and found in one of them a complaint by a woman who decided that he had physically harassed her.

The investigations also revealed that the accused used the essence of narcotic cannabis, according to the results of the analysis of the blood and urine samples taken from him, as proven by the forensic report.

The girl is called Habiba Al-Shamaa. She is currently 24 years old, a graduate of the Faculty of Information from the British University, and works in the field of furniture and decoration.

A 34-year-old driver who holds an industrial technician diploma in the refrigeration and air conditioning department. He is married and has 3 children, the eldest of whom is in elementary school.
