Death of Egyptian player Ahmed Refaat at the age of 31 | Sports

Modern Sport Club, competing in the Egyptian Premier League, announced today, Saturday, the death of its player Ahmed Refaat, 31 years old, after his health deteriorated and he was transferred to the hospital.

Rafat had suffered a sudden health problem during a match for his team, Modern Future (the club’s former name), against Al-Ittihad Alexandria last March, and the player was transferred to the hospital for treatment before leaving last April after his condition improved.

The club said in an official statement today via social media, “With great patience and sadness and with more faith in God’s will and destiny, Modern Sport Club announces the death of Ahmed Refaat, the first team player and the Egyptian national team, due to a sharp deterioration in his health condition, after which he was transferred to the hospital, where God took him, after an arduous journey of struggle following the health crisis that occurred to him on March 11, 2024.”

The statement added, “With hearts filled with sadness, we can only accept God’s will. The club offers its sincere condolences to the player’s family and Egyptian football fans…”
