The Fatwa House stressed the necessity of adhering to the Fatwa House’s announcement regarding the legal sighting of the crescent moons of the Hijri months and not announcing before the specified time. To avoid any confusion that might occur among people as a result.

With the approaching month of Ramadan, the Fatwa House has identified matters that invalidate fasting, and they are as follows:

A fasting person intentionally eats and drinks during the day in Ramadan

Whoever eats or drinks intentionally during the day in Ramadan has broken his fast according to the consensus of the scholars, and he must make up only one day in some schools of thought, which is the fatwa, and making up a day with expiation in some schools of thought, and expiation is fasting for sixty consecutive days or feeding sixty poor people if he is unable to fast, and everyone agrees that Anyone who intentionally eats or drinks during the day in Ramadan is guilty and sinful for violating the sanctity of fasting.

A fasting person eats and drinks forgetfully during the day in Ramadan

As for someone who eats or drinks forgetfully, his fast is invalidated according to the doctrine of Imam Malik, and he must abstain for the rest of his day and must make up for it only. However, according to non-Malik, eating or drinking forgetfully does not invalidate the fast and does not make up for it, and his fasting is valid, which is more likely for us.

Intentionally having sexual intercourse during the day in Ramadan

Among the things that invalidate the fast: intentional intercourse during the day in Ramadan, and whoever does that must make up for it and perform atonement in all schools of thought, but is the atonement required of the husband and wife together? Some schools of thought see this, and some consider expiation to be imposed on the husband, but the wife only has to make up for it, even if the two are partners in the sin and disobedience.

Intentionally vomiting during the day in Ramadan

One of the things that invalidates the fast is intentional vomiting, and everything that reaches the stomach in terms of liquids or solids invalidates the fast, even if the Hanafi and Maliki schools stipulate that solids should settle in the stomach. If kohl is applied during the day and its traces or taste are found in the throat, it invalidates the fast according to some imams. According to Abu Hanifa and Al-Shafi’i, may God be pleased with them, kohl does not break the fast even if it is applied during the day in Ramadan. They base their doctrine on what was narrated on the authority of the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family, that he used kohl during the day. Ramadan, which is likely for us.

Menstruation and postpartum during fasting

Among the things that invalidate fasting are menstruation and postpartum.
